Harrier pilots to train at MCAS Beaufort

newsroom@islandpacket.comMay 7, 2014

Harrier pilots will train at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort from May 9 to 22, according to an air station press release.

A detachment of AV-8B Harriers from Marine Aircraft Group 14 will train at the air station for two weeks while an air show is held at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in North Carolina.

Harrier jets are best known for their vertical takeoff and landing capabilities. While at the air station, the Harrier jets will use the landing pads built for the F-35B Lightning II fighters coming to MCAS Beaufort this summer.

The F-35B's will eventually replace three aircraft in the Marine Corps, Harriers among them, the release said.
