Shoulder closing planned for US 278

newsroom@islandpacket.comMay 2, 2014

The eastbound shoulder of U.S. 278 from Fording Island Road Extension to the first bridge to Hilton Head Island will be closed beginning Monday in greater Bluffton.

Weather permitting, the shoulder will be closed to allow Palmetto Electric Cooperative to relocate utilities to accommodate the planned eastbound ramp of the Bluffton Parkway flyover.

Work on the utilities is scheduled to take place from 7 a.m. until dark and will take about four weeks to complete.

Drivers should pay attention to construction signs and be aware of the roadside equipment and crews. Delays are expected.
