USC Beaufort softball players Maddie Byrd, Melanie Goolsby and Taylor Triplett were named to the 2014 CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District Team on Thursday, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced.

The Academic All-District squads are selected by college sports information directors across the nation and are meant to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom.

Byrd, a junior from Bogart, Ga., enters play Friday batting .372 with three home runs and 19 RBIs. Goolsby, a senior from Richmond Hill, Ga., was hitting .368 with three homers and 20 RBIs before suffering a season-ending ankle injury April 22. Triplett, a junior from Murrieta, Calif., was named to the All-Sun Conference first team and enters play Friday batting .445 with 10 doubles, 10 home runs and 41 RBIs.

It's the second Academic All-District selection for Byrd, who went on to earn third-team Academic All-America honors last season. She and Triplett were among four Academic All-District honorees from USCB a year ago. Goolsby is a first-time selection.

All Academic All-District honorees advance to the ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
