A man was shot at Wednesday after an argument in Dale, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office news release.

Deputies learned two men had been arguing on Kinloch Road at about 6:10 p.m. when one of them tried to strike the other with a metal tool. The man under attack pulled a folding pocket knife, slashed his opponent's back and tried to drive from the area. An unknown suspect fired several rounds at the man's truck, striking it once, the release said.

A store on Kinloch Road also was struck by bullets. Employees inside were not injured. The investigation continues.

It was not clear from the release whether an arrest has been made. Attempts Thursday to reach a Sheriff's Office spokeswoman were unsuccessful.
