A man was shot at Wednesday afternoon after an argument in Dale, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office news release.

Deputies were called to Kinloch Road about 6:10 p.m. for a report of shots fired. Deputies learned two people were arguing when a suspect tried to strike the other man with a metal tool, the release said.

The victim defended himself with a folding pocket knife, slashing the suspect's back, then tried to drive away from the area.

An unknown suspect fired several rounds at the victim's truck, striking it once, the release said.

A store on Kinloch Road was also struck by bullets, though employees inside the business at the time were not injured. The investigation is ongoing.

It was not clear from the release whether an arrest was made.
