Cancer claims Sheriff's Office dog

K-9 Deputy Buck died last week after a four-month battle with cancer, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Facebook post.

The 10-year-old Belgian Malinois was partnered with Sgt. Jeff Lauver in 2006. Buck retired from active duty in mid-December, when he was diagnosed with bone cancer and had a leg removed. Lauver continued caring for Buck until his death.

"Buck fought til the end," Lauver said in the post. "He was there mentally, but not physically."
