The Bluffton Police Department is investigating an attempted murder following a drive-by shooting Tuesday evening, Capt. Joseph Manning said.

A 20-year-old Bluffton man was driving a relative's car near Buck Island Road and Ballfield Road about 8 p.m. when several shots were fired at him from an unknown red car, Manning said.

Two of the bullets hit the man's car door, but he was not injured, according to Manning. The victim said he did not know who shot at him or why and police have not found any witnesses.

Officers are investigating whether the incident was a case of mistaken identity, as well as any possible connections to previous Bluffton shootings, Manning said.

"So far, we're not seeing anything," he said.
