Unseasonably warm and humid air is expected to cause widespread thunderstorms in Beaufort County today and Thursday, according to National Weather Service Charleston forecasts.

Some of the storms could be severe, with damaging winds, hail and possibly tornadoes, a hazardous weather outlook issued by the service said.

Heavy rains and frequent lightning were reported with a storm that affected much of Beaufort County this morning.

In a special weather statement, the service advised staying away from tall objects, if outside. If indoors, the statement says to stay away from windows and doors and avoid using plumbing and electrical appliances unless it is an emergency.

The service has also issued a flood advisory for minor flooding in Beaufort County, saying the county could see two or more inches of rain per hour.
