Allan Winneker of Okatie, author of "Border Line: A Novel," will sign copies of his book from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at McIntosh Book Shoppe, 917 Bay St., Beaufort.

The fictional thriller is based on a real-life incident in which Border Patrol Agent Brian A. Terry was shot to death in 2010 in a firefight north of the Arizona-Mexico border.

In the story, Agent Randall "Rusty" Powell is held captive by drug cartel members after they murder his partner during their attempt to smuggle drugs across the U.S. border. Richard Martinez, an FBI agent with a Mexican heritage, risks his life and career to rescue Powell.
