DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The University of South Carolina Beaufort track and field team made an impressive haul at the Sun Conference Championships on Monday and Tuesday, racking up 16 all-conference performances, 10 school records, two individual titles and an individual superlative award.
Both USCB teams finished fourth overall. The women had 108 points to finish behind Embry-Riddle (212.5), Webber International (206) and Northwood (112). The men had 73 points, trailing Embry-Riddle (307), Warner (129) and Northwood (108).
Junior Ty'Chelle Freeman won the individual crown in the shot put Tuesday with a meet record throw of 12.92 meters, joining junior Joyce Miller (10,000 meters) as an individual conference champion.
Junior Melissa Carder led USCB with three all-conference performances, placing third and setting a school mark in the 1,500 meters, also taking third in the 5,000 meters and helping the 4x400 relay team set a school record in a third-place finish.
In addition to her 10K triumph, Miller placed second and set a school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to claim two all-conference nods. Sophomore Brandon Gourdine (110 hurdles, 400 hurdles) also earned all-conference status in two events.
The other all-conference performers for USCB were Megan Atkinson (javelin), Shakil Gause (shot put), Taylor Keen (hammer), Claire Kennedy (4x400), Nic O'Neill (3,000-meter steeplechase), Pamela Robinson (4x400), Jaime Thomas (800) and Sarah Turrubiate (4x400).
Also setting school records this week were Darryl Dunham (400), Ricky Williams (100), Rashad White (hammer), Ciera Love (100), Turrubiate (400 hurdles) and the men's 4x400 team of Dunham, Domonique Harris, Kyle Hamm and Gourdine.
