  • The Easter bunny was no match for more than 75 children and their families at Hunting Island State Park on Saturday morning.

The children snatched up all of the bunny's more than 1,500 hidden eggs that were scattered around the field and the lighthouse at the north end of the park.

Despite a bit of rain and a few tears over parents rationing candy, the fourth annual Hunting Island State Park Easter Egg Extravaganza was a success, said Malia Cooler, the South Carolina Park Services office manager at the park.

"All the kids had their picture taken with the Easter bunny and we had a great time," she said.

The event also raised about $75 for the Friends of Hunting Island, which gives walking tours of the park and helps host educational programs there.

The extravaganza typically attracts more than double this year's number, but the rain dampened those numbers, Cooler said.

"But considering it all, the turnout was still really good," she said.

The rain was not an issue for 4-year-old Stone Pham, who lives with his parents, Khang and Rebecca, on Harbor Island. He was just happy to have met the Easter bunny this year, he said.

"And I love Easter egg hunts!" he added.

Stone's bright, imaginative Easter coloring worksheet was crowned the best coloring among children aged 5 and younger, earning him a fishing rod and a stuffed pink bunny.

"We were a little unsure about the ocean being yellow, but it all worked out," his mom conceded.

The Easter bunny also visited Bluffton on Saturday morning to take pictures with children.

A host of Sunday services are scheduled throughout the day at congregations throughout Beaufort County.

In addition, the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing will host its own Easter service at 7:30 a.m. at the 18th green of Harbour Town Golf Links. It is sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Visitors may sit in the skyboxes and bleachers. Pros Chesson Hadley, Richard Lee and Ben Martin will participate. Tournament tickets are required.

The ceremony also will feature local ministers, music and non-denominational prayer.
