Repave gateway to make island inviting

newsroom@islandpacket.comApril 18, 2014

Regarding the planned beautification of the U.S. 278 medians leading to Hilton Head Island, I would like to invite the powers-that-be on Hilton Head, Bluffton and Beaufort County to take a drive from their respective offices west to Interstate 95 via U.S. 278.

They might observe the crumbling pavement and pot holes from the overpass to I-95.

The true gateway to our little paradise begins at that off ramp. If we are looking to enhance the experience of tourists and visitors, I suggest we begin with a repaving project before we are forced to borrow cobblestones from River Street in Savannah to make the ride smoother.

I, with no power to affect an action of this magnitude, appeal to the authorities to consider making this improvement a priority.

I think we should all be thankful and pleased with the recently finished project east of S.C. 170.
