A 26-year-old Lady's Island woman missing since Tuesday was found dead in woods near a Yemassee cemetery with a gunshot wound to the head, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

No foul play is suspected and a gun was discovered near the women's body, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The incident is being investigated by the Hampton County Sheriff's Office and the S.C. Law Enforcement Division, the release added. The woman's body was discovered Wednesday near Ebenezer Cemetery, which is Hampton County, about 2 miles from the Beaufort County line in Yemassee.

The victim told family members Tuesday afternoon that she was leaving to do her taxes. Her family reported her missing Tuesday evening when her boyfriend returned home and informed them the victim had already done her taxes and received her tax return, the release said.

Family members told authorities the woman seemed suicidal, and they grew concerned when they discovered a handgun was missing from the home, the release said.

The victim's vehicle was found Wednesday near Ebenezer Cemetery. A caretaker there said he saw the victim walking by herself at about 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the release said.

Deputies found her body off a trail near the cemetery.
