Ride of Silence set for May 21

A Ride of Silence to raise awareness about bicycling safety will begin at 6:30 p.m. May 21 on Hilton Head Island.

The ride starts at Street Meet in Port Royal Plaza, 95 Mathews Drive. Bicyclists will leave the parking lot, head south on William Hilton Parkway to the stoplight at Queens Way, then return to the restaurant.

Bicyclists ashould wear helmets and black armbands and have lights on their bikes. Police will escort bikers along the 9-mile ride at an average speed of 10 to 12 mph, according to a news release.
