USC Beaufort women in 2nd place after first day of conference golf tournament

LAKE WALES, Fla. -- The University of South Carolina Beaufort women's golf team put together a solid first round Friday at the Sun Conference Championship and is in second place, trailing only top-ranked SCAD Savannah.

The 12th-ranked Sand Sharks posted a team score of 320, leaving them nine shots behind the Bees. USCB is one shot ahead of No. 5 Northwood (Fla.), and ninth-ranked Embry-Riddle is fourth at 328.

Senior Kendra Collins led the Sand Sharks with a 78 and is tied for fifth, six shots behind co-leaders Alazne Urizar of SCAD Savannah and Bri LaFoca of Northwood.

Junior Tori DeGroodt (79) is tied for seventh and junior Samantha O'Donnell (81) is tied for ninth. Sophomore Lina Sekerkova (82) is tied for 11th, and sophomore Hayley Miller (99) rounded out the lineup in 40th.

The Sand Sharks will be paired with SCAD and Northwood for Saturday's second round, with their tee times running from 12:30 to 1:06 p.m. The 54-hole event concludes Sunday.
