Trash bags dumped outside Hilton Head Walmart

rlurye@islandpacket.comApril 11, 2014

The road outside the Walmart on Hilton Head Island was packed an hour before opening Thursday morning -- not with shoppers but with as many as 100 bags of garbage, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report.

Deputies were called to Pembroke Drive at about 5 a.m. because trash bags had been dumped across about 500 feet of roadway, the report said. Deputies tracked a trail of liquid out of the parking lot to westbound William Hilton Parkway but could not find a vehicle from which the bags might have fallen or been tossed, according to the report.

The Town of Hilton Head Island cleaned up the garbage, the report said, and deputies directed traffic until about 7 a.m.
