Spring has sprung, and Easter is almost here, which means it's time to get excited about the Bluffton Children's Easter Parade on April 19 in Old Town.

MCADAM — McClatchy-Tribune News Service

    Makes: 10-12 servings

2 cups brown rice, Uncle Ben's is good

1 cup wild rice, rinse several times

    3 cups vegetable broth

    3 cups water

    2 tablespoons olive oil

    2 Vidalia onions, chopped

    2 large garlic cloves, chopped

    1 1/2 pounds mushrooms, chopped

    4 carrots, chopped

    1 cup fresh parsley, chopped

Put rices in a large pot with broth and water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, cover, simmer until cooked (about 30 to 40 minutes). Put olive oil in a saute pan, add onion and garlic, saute until soft. Add mushrooms and carrots, cook, stirring well until softened. Toss everything together until well mixed. Serve hot with freshly grated cheese on the side, if you like.

Well do you think spring has finally sprung? Golly, I, for one, really hope so.

I am so thrilled because it looks as though several of the plants I thought were goners are sprouting leaves. I am really happy because my lemon tree is coming to life, and I also have two bird houses sporting families of baby birds with very busy mamas and papas. I love this time of year.
