Prep Roundup, April 3: Hilton Head Prep pitchers combine for no-hitter

BASEBALL

Hilton Head Prep 7, First Baptist 0: Greg Warren and Cem Caglayan combined to throw a no-hitter as Hilton Head Prep downed First Baptist 7-0 at home.

Warren pitched five innings, striking out four and walking two, while Caglayan three the final two innings, striking out two and walking one.

At the plate, D.J. Churchich was 1 for 3 with an RBI, Randy Young was 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored, James Leonard was 1 for 2 with an RBI, Cole Gardocki was 2 for 3 and J.T. Marbut was 1 for 2 with two runs and a stolen base.

The Dolphins (10-2, 5-1 SCISAA Region 3-AAA) host Colleton Prep at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Berkeley 9, Hilton Head Island 1: The Seahawks had more errors than hits and allowed a six-run third that all but sealed their fate.

Hilton Head Island (8-4, 5-2 Region 8-AAA) committed five errors and knocked four hits. Six runs scored in the third when Berkeley (10-2, 4-1) sent 11 men to the plate. Despite the nine-run total, Berkeley ahd just five hits.

Andrew Dill (1-2) took the loss on the mound for the Seahawks and reached base three times ( a hit and two walks), scoring Hilton Head Island's only run. Troy Clifford was 1 for 2 with an RBI.

St. Andrew's 4, Thomas Heyward Academy 3: Thomas Heyward held a 3-0 lead, but a three-run homer by St. Andrew's tied up the game in the fifth inning and then the visitors scored the winning run in the top of the sixth.

Connor Driscoll was 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs, Seth Jones was 2 for 3 and Blake Bannon went 2 for 4 for the Rebels (6-3 overall, 1-1 region).

Jones started and pitched three scoreless innings. Jason Quick got the loss.

Thomas Heyward is back in action at 6:30 p.m. Monday, hosting Dorchester Academy.

Beaufort High 9, Colleton County 2 (Wednesday): Stephen Baggett went 3 for 3 with two RBIs, Alex Tokar went 2 for 3 with an RBI and Jesse Sanborn was 1 for 3 with a home run.

Andrew Smyth got the win, striking out four in a complete game.

Middle school: Hilton Head Middle 6, Beaufort Middle 2

Middle school: John Paul II 4, Hilton Head Christian 1

JV: Beaufort High 7, Bluffton 5

BOYS SOCCER

Hilton Head Island 6, Berkeley 0: Eneo Torres score four goals to lead the Seahawks (6-2, 2-2 Region 8-AAA) to victory.

Koben Berrientos and Josh Axtell also scored goals for Hilton Head Island, which next plays at home April 10

Miguel Ceron had two assists and Noah Pagataptan, Garvin Richards and Heber Reyes each had an assist.

The Seahawks next playat home April 10 against Dacula (Ga.).

Hilton Head Prep 4, Whale Branch 0: Teron Daley scored two goals and had an assist to lead the Dolphins past the Warriors.

Mat Orie and Will Peterkin also scored goals. Lucas McMillan had two assists and Waddy Brooks had one.

Goalkeeper Adam Schauss made one save for the shutout.

Hilton Head Prep (7-4) plays at Battery Creek at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Academic Magnet 4, Battery Creek 0: Tristian Saunders made eight saves and Miguel Mejia made four, but the Dolphins fell on the road.

Battery Creek (3-2 Region 6-AA) plays a non-region game at 5:30 p.m. Friday, hosting Hilton Head Prep.

GIRLS SOCCER

Hilton Head Island 7, Berkeley 0: Rebecca Johnston and Claudia Murphy each scored twice to lead the Seahawks (10-1, 4-0 Region 8-AAA) to victory.

Amanda Green, Ashley Green and Rebeka Parent each had single goals. Sam Wommack and Sydney Segars split time in goal.

SOFTBALL

Berkeley 10, Hilton Head Island 0, 5 innings: Caitlin Buckalew was 2 for 2 and Whitney Halley was 1 for 2 for the Seahawks (4-5), which play Monday at Stall for a doubleheader.

Beaufort High 9, Colleton County 0 (Wednesday): Natalie Moore had three hits, and Mari Cook hit a home run and a double to lead the Eagles to the win. Michelle Brown and Chelsea Welty added two hits apiece, and Jenny Mullins was the winning pitcher. Mullins held Colleton County to three hits and had seven strikeouts.

Hilton Head Prep 6, Porter-Gaud 3: The Dolphins (7-1) handed the defending state champions their fiirst loss of the season. Hilton Head Prep moves on to host Bluffton on Monday.
