A 46-year-old Beaufort man was charged with cruelty to children Saturday after he allegedly beat a 10-year-old girl with a belt buckle, a Beaufort Police Department spokeswoman said.

The incident is believed to have taken place between March 15 and March 22, Cpl. Hope Able said. The 10-year-old victim had injuries consistent with the reported incident, she said.

The man was released from the Beaufort County Detention Center Sunday after posting $470 bond, according to the jail log.
