A 27-year-old woman was pushed from a moving vehicle on St. Helena Island on Wednesday after a man who offered her a ride demanded she take off her clothes, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office news release.

The woman was walking near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on St. Helena about 10 p.m. Wednesday when she accepted a ride from a man in a dark-colored vehicle. An altercation ensued when the man demanded she disrobe, the release said.

The woman took off some of her clothes, but was able to open the car's door. The man, who has not been identified, pushed her from the moving car. The victim suffered abrasions and was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital for treatment.

An investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 843-255-3426 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-274-6372.
