A Savannah man arrested in a trespassing incident in Jasper County on Saturday was later charged with trafficking heroin, according to a Jasper County Sheriff's Office news release.

Jonathan Michael Hughes, 26, was arrested by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources in an area where dredge spoil is dumped near Speedway Boulevard near the foot of the Talmadge Bridge, the release said. The department called the Sheriff's Office after finding illegal drugs on the suspect.

In addition to trespassing, Hughes was charged with trafficking between 4 and 14 grams of heroin, possession of LSD and possession of less than a gram of methamphetamine, the release said.

He was being held Wednesday at the Jasper County Detention Center while awaiting a bond hearing.
