The Jasper County Sheriff's Office is investigating a possible home invasion, in which a Hardeeville resident and suspect exchanged gunshots Sunday, a news release said.

Deputies arrived at a Deerfield Road home at about 4:30 p.m. to find the suspect lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds, the release said. The suspect was taken to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah with non-life threatening injuries.

It was not immediately clear whether charges were pending against the resident or the suspect, whose identity was withheld Tuesday. The Sheriff's Office is investigating.
