Stop with the Nazi references

newsroom@islandpacket.comMarch 21, 2014

A recent letter strongly criticized Common Core, the federal government's new national education standard. The writer said the Obama administration was forcing standards on the states, "despite America's long tradition of local governance and separation of powers." I thought, "Short memory." Didn't we have No Child Left Behind under George W. Bush?

But then, the final paragraph made a Hitler/Nazi reference, which seems to be more and more the practice these days when criticizing our president.

We all have the right to disagree with our elected officials and their policies. However, to compare the current administration with a regime that dragged people from their homes and then sent them to concentration camps to be gassed and incinerated is not only ludicrous but grossly offensive.

Let's voice our disapproval with reasons and civility.
