Right vs. left is same as parent vs. children

newsroom@islandpacket.comMarch 20, 2014

In response to a writer's question regarding the difference between good people on the political right and left, I would offer the following:

The philosophical difference between right and left is analogous to the relationship between parent and child in that the liberal mind never evolves to recognize that all actions have consequences, and bills must be paid. Liberals, like children, want all things perfect, and they want it all done now. And they are willing to delay the cost of their actions into the unknown future.

Conservatives also long for perfection but realize that solutions require time. More importantly, they stress the prudent management of the people's tax dollars. Simply put, conservatives believe that you should pay as you go.

They both believe they are right and good.
