Lawmakers wrong to cut funding for two colleges

Some S.C. legislators in Columbia need a lesson on how and why a free society works.

It's based on ideas and the transfer of knowledge from generation to generation through an educational system. These ideas are naturally filtered by those who discuss them so that, eventually, bad ideas fail and good ones thrive.

For an arm of the government to withhold funds from educational institutions that are giving young, fertile minds an opportunity to better understand how our society works and how we can improve it is unconscionable. In fact, it's censorship.

Academic freedom is a vital component of a free society and should not be compromised. Is book burning next?
