A Hilton Head Island man was charged Monday with seven counts of failing to file income tax returns, according to a news release from the S.C. Department of Revenue.

Richard E. Thomas II, 48, failed to file income tax returns from 2005 to 2011 and had an outstanding tax liability of more than $37,000, according to the release. Thomas could face seven years in prison and fines of as much as $70,000, the release said.
