Prep Roundup, March 14: Hilton Head High boys score 3 goals in 2nd half to win

BOYS SOCCER

Hilton Head Island High 3, Beaufort Academy 0: Noa Pagatpatan, Eduardo Quevedo and Freisser Queseda scored goals -- all after halftime -- to lead the Seahawks to victory.

"It was a pretty encouraging game for us, because it was the first time this year we executed a tactic," Hilton Head coach Wayne Quinlan said.

Pagatpatan added two assists and Quevedo had one. Goalkeeper Marlon Asenscion made three saves for the shutout.

Hilton Head High (3-2) opens Region 8-AAA play at Stall on Tuesday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Hilton Head Island High 10, Academic Magnet 9: Haley Matousek scored the game-winning goal off an assist by Savannah Reier with three seconds remaining. It was the third win in the final 20 seconds this season for Hilton Head High.

"I think they play a lot better when they are pushed and are challenged," said Seahawks coach Kathy Marshall. "If it's an easier game for them, they hang back. But if they are pushed, they really go out there and play hard.

"But it is a little nerve-wracking," she added.

Matousek and Abby Ogden scored three goals apiece for the Seahawks (7-2). Mary Piper Martel, Tristyn Sheaffer, Carson Kendrick and Reier also had goals. Shayra Valdez made nine saves.

BOYS LACROSSE

Hilton Head Island High 7, Porter-Gaud 5: Thomas Farrell scored three goals, and Tucker Roberts had two goals and an assist to lead the Seahawks to the win.

Will Urbin and Layton Kirby also scored goals for the Seahawks (3-1), who host Academic Magnet at 1 p.m. Saturday.

BASEBALL

Hilton Head Prep 3, Porter-Gaud 2 (10 innings): Greg Warren and Tyler Fox combined on a three-hitter, and James Leonard drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 10th to win it for the Dolphins.

Warren started and went 5 2-3 innings, and Fox finished up the final 4 1-3 innings.

Randy Young led the Prep offense, going 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

Hilton Head Island High 1-4, Taquama Area (Pa.) 2-3: The Seahawks split their doubleheader with the Pennsylvania visitors, dropping the opener 2-1 before winning the second game 4-3.

SOFTBALL

Colleton County 12, Hilton Head Island High 1: The Seahawks fell on the road in Walterboro.

BOYS TENNIS

Hilton Head Island 4, Carrolton (Ga..) 2: Hilton Head High won its first match in the Seahawk Invitational, a round-robin tournament. It was the Seahawks' first match of the season.

Bishop England defeated Beaufort High, 5-1, in another first-round matchup.

BOYS GOLF

Hilton Head Prep: The Dolphins finished second to Bluffton in a match held Thursday. Whale Branch and Beaufort also participated.

Jose Quilis led Prep with a 42, Uige Ujaan shot 45, John Larson had a 51 and Caroline Richey finished with a 57.
