Thankful to live in US where I enjoy freedom

newsroom@islandpacket.comMarch 14, 2014

I am so thankful to be in the U.S. where we enjoy freedom of speech and of the press. I am also thankful that people who state certain radical opinions do not have the power to carry them through.

An example of this is a recent statement by our Sen. Lindsey Graham condemning our "weak and indecisive president" who "invites aggression" by his response to the Ukrainian crisis.

Lindsey, before you start any more saber rattling can't we give peace (negotiation) a chance? Now there's a novel idea. I'm thankful that our president is in control, not you, because in this land of the free, you can shoot off your mouth with the assurance that the real responsibility for dealing with this sensitive situation is not in your hands.

I am also thankful that, in this great country, I can read the almost-daily, nasty letters to the editor, condemning our government in every possible manner. I have the privilege of reading them and depositing them in the trash where they belong.
