Guilford men, Cumberlands women win TaylorMade-adidas titles at Dataw Island

The Guilford College men's golf team completed the wire-to-wire victory at the TaylorMade-adidas Intercollegiate, winning by eight strokes Tuesday at the Dataw Island Golf Club.

It's the Quakers' second straight win. They won the Pine Needles Intercollegiate last week in Southern Pines, N.C.

Guilford shot 294-301-314-909 over 54 holes to outdistance the 14-team field that included five schools among the top 25 in NCAA Division III according to

Concordia (Texas) shot 302 Tuesday's to leapfrog Hampden-Sydney into second place with a 300-315-302-917. Led by individual medalist Brian Burt and runner-up Rick O'Connell, Hampden-Sydney placed third with a 307-301-313-921.

Guilford had five golfers among the top 18 finishers in the 90-man field, led by rookies Tanner Gross and Ty Palmer, who shared seventh place after shooting 11-over-par 227.


Cumberlands, ranked No. 4 in NAIA, won the tournament with a 36-hole total of 653, while Wittenberg, ranked No. 20 in NCAA Division III, finished in second at 671.

Liz Stephens of Cumberland fired back-to-back 80s to take medalist honors with a 160, defeating teammate Bri-Anne Tokariwski by one shot.

Wittenberg teammates Nicole Waers and Macy Hubbard, along with first-round leader Dylan Dawson of Hardin-Simmons, finished in a tie for third place at 162.

The tournaments were hosted by Ohio-Wesleyan.
