The USC Beaufort men's and women's golf teams will tee off in area tournaments Monday.

The men hope to keep the hardware for their own tournament at home for the third straight year when the Sand Sharks defend their title at the Sand Shark Classic at Oldfield Golf Club.

USCB won the event for the second straight year last March, edging St. Thomas by seven shots as Brian Langley claimed the individual title. The Sand Sharks won the 2012 event at Chechessee Creek Club behind individual champion Mark Phillips.

The eight-team field includes five teams ranked in the NAIA top-25 poll with No. 3 Coastal Georgia leading the strong field. All four Sun Conference schools that are participating are ranked in the top 25 -- No. 12 Johnson & Wales, No. 14 Northwood, No. 20 USCB and No. 25 Southeastern.

Three more NAIA teams -- Dalton State, St. Andrews and Spalding -- round out the field.

The par-72 Greg Norman layout will play at 6,920 yards. The first two rounds of the 54-hole event will be played Monday beginning at 8:30 a.m. with the final round scheduled for Tuesday.

The women tee off between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Monday with playing partners Mount Olive and Converse in the Hilton Head Lakes Invitational, hosted by Pfieffer University.

Lander, led by individual champion T. Caballer Hernani (4-under 69-71--140), won last year's event by seven strokes over Queens. USCB was fourth, 19 strokes out.

Also in the field are Wingate, Queens, Belmont Abbey, North Greenville, Coker, Montevallo, Catawba, Erskine, Anderson, Lincoln Memorial, Barton, Limestone, Lenoir Rhyne and King.
