Back to the energy. I grew up in Unity. My folks were involved in Unity since before I was born. I've been a part of Unity all my life. Unity Church was founded about 125 years ago. Its goal was to revitalize traditional Christianity, bring it back to the energy and the purpose of first century Christianity. The founders had no intention at the time of starting a new church. They just wanted to bring all the energy that they felt had been in Christianity, and some of which had slipped away. It was very much started as a healing and prayer ministry.

Greeting my good friends. I'm in charge of the usher/greeter team, which is one of my favorite things. I get to be there early on Sunday mornings and welcome people when they come in and just have all the joy of greeting all my good friends.

Celebrating life. When I was coming up the Unity Church was called "The Unity School of Practical Christianity." It was to learn how to use what Jesus taught to make our lives better. Sort of like, if this really has value, then it will work for us and let's test it out. Let's follow what Jesus teaches more than just worship Jesus. It's a very joy-filled church. Joy is such a part of it. We like to call our services "celebration services" because we're celebrating life and all the good in life.

A new thought. In Unity's belief, it's called a "new-thought church" because we believe in the importance of changing our thoughts if our life isn't going well, because the way we think about things controls how our life is. We choose a new thought so we can have the results in our lives. If we choose thoughts of anger or how bad things are, then our life is going to reflect that. And if we choose thoughts of inherent goodness of people and the possibilities God has for us, then that's what we're going to see in our life.

Favorite Bible verse. "Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together and spilling over, will be put into your lap." Luke 6:38. The idea that he wants us to have a good in our life. There's an abundance of good waiting for us. It's already here.
