Police stories show need for concealed weapons

In response to a recent (rhetorical?) question posed by a letter writer on Monday, the answer is yes. We do want concealed weapons permit holders to be allowed to carry in restaurants and bars.

Precisely for the reason listed in the letter -- that some police officers have had their guns used against them -- is all the more reason why concealed carry increases citizens' safety. The half dozen accounts of this reality of officers getting their weapons used against them, as presented in American Rifleman magazine's The Armed Citizen column, is the evidenced-based answer needed.

If not, a second letter -- about the increased safety we all enjoy because of concealed weapons -- published the same day will be of some use.
