Piggly Wiggly closing inconsiderate to elderly

newsroom@islandpacket.comMarch 2, 2014

On Feb. 20, there was a wonderful letter in the paper from Gwen Jenkins-Speller concerning the closing of the Piggly Wiggly on Boundary Street.

She expressed exactly how I feel, and how a lot of older people who live in this area also feel.

There is no consideration given to older people. She said she is 62. I am almost 90. It makes a big hole in my life not to have a local grocery, as neighborhoods have always had.

I will miss Piggly and the consideration that manager Donald Goodwine had for his customers. And this has to happen so there can be more parking spaces?

We really should have a funeral for the times when people treated older people with consideration.
