Police continued working Tuesday to determine what happened before a man was struck by an SUV and shots were fired outside a Bluffton home Thursday.

Quaddray Dramel Gaston, 29, was charged Friday with attempted murder after he reportedly ran over another man with a Chevrolet Tahoe the previous day outside a home in the 1200 block of May River Road, according to the Bluffton Police Department. Officers searched for a man who was seen running from the area with a gun, but did not find him Thursday.

Neighbors said they heard two shots during the incident, which started when Gaston went to the home to fight, according to police.

The man who was hit by the SUV has been released from the hospital, and the SUV has been examined, Capt. Joseph Manning said. He declined to release any additional information Tuesday, citing the ongoing investigation.

"We are running down leads," Manning said.

Gaston was being held without bond Tuesday at the Beaufort County Detention Center.
