Antwun Goldwire

A 26-year-old Garnett man was arrested Monday, accused of leading a S.C. Highway Patrol trooper on a chase in Beaufort in a stolen car Feb. 15, according to a report from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

At about 7:30 p.m., a trooper saw a silver 2006 Honda drive through a stop sign and speed down Battery Creek Road, the report said. When the trooper turned on his emergency lights, the suspect tried to turn right onto Talbird Road, but instead struck a tree.

The driver ran away, but he was later identified as Antwun Goldwire, the report said.

Goldwire was charged Monday with possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest and reckless driving, according to the Beaufort County Detention center log. He was released Monday after posting $15,445 bond.
