Minor fire reported on Hilton Head

A Hilton Head Island woman thought she saw fog or mist rising from her pool Thursday morning--until she noticed flames rising from the deck, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report.

The Palmetto Dunes resident called the Hilton Head Island Fire & Rescue Division, which arrived at her Ocean Lane home and extinguished the flames shortly after 6:30 a.m., the report said. The fire charred several wooden planks and burned a pool light fixture, causing about $250 in damage, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The resident said she had not seen anyone near the pool and a battalion chief was unable to determine the cause of the fire, the report said.
