Six people, including three Hilton Head Island residents, have been charged with attempted murder after two shootings at a Ridgeland apartment complex early Tuesday, according to police.

The Ridgeland Police Department was called to two separate shooting incidents -- one at 8:18 a.m. and the other at 11:41 a.m. -- at the Woodridge Apartments complex on Shadetree Street. One man was injured in the shootings, a news release said.

In the first shooting, a man was found inside an apartment with a leg wound. Police say the shooter is Dante Jenkins, 29, who lives in the apartment complex. The wounded man was taken by EMS to Coastal Carolina Hospital, the release said. Information about the man's condition was not available Wednesday.

Warrants for attempted murder and possession of a handgun during the commission of a violent crime have been issued for Jenkins, who is considered armed and dangerous, the release said.

In the second shooting, which police believe was retaliation for the first, five men shot into Jenkins' apartment on Shadetree Street several times, the release said.

A few minutes later, police stopped a vehicle matching a description given by a caller. Two men ran from the car into woods, one of them dropping a gun, according to police. All five men were in custody within six minutes of the call, with help from the Jasper County Sheriff's Office, the release said.

Charged with attempted murder were Kadeem Jabril Zeigler, 21, of Hilton Head; Nathaniel Drayton III, 26, of Hilton Head; Akeem Shamar Jenkins, 19, of Hilton Head; Javante Kwame Pringles, 20, of Ridgeland; and Glenn Docosta, 23, of Seabrook.

Three handguns were recovered during the arrest, with the help of a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit, according to the release. One of the guns was reported stolen in 2010 from a vehicle on Hilton Head, and another was stolen in Georgia, the release said.

Akeem Jenkins faces an additional charge of possession of a stolen handgun, and Pringles was also charged with possession of a handgun with an obliterated serial number and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Zeigler was free on bond from the Beaufort County Detention Center on 2010 charges of attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. In that incident, Zeigler and another man shot a Bluffton man in the back from a vehicle with a shotgun as the victim walked along May River Road, according to Sheriff's Office reports.

All five men were being held Wednesday at the Jasper County Detention Center awaiting bond hearings, the release said.

Anyone who knows Dante Jenkins' whereabouts can call police at 843-726-7530.
