High School Roundup, Feb. 17: Hilton Head Prep girls end winless run in SCISAA Region 3-AAA finale

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Hilton Head Prep 35, Ashley Hall 29: The Dolphins earned their first SCISAA Region 3-AAA win in their last try of the season, overcoming Ashley Hall 35-29 on Monday.

Catherine Sheehan had 12 points to lead Hilton Head Prep (4-17, 1-11).

The Dolphins' Foster Willey and Maddie McDonald added six points apiece.

The Dolphins close out the season Tuesday at Bible Baptist.

Denmark-Olar 45, Whale Branch 35: Kemoni Jenkins had 16 points in the Warriors' loss.

Whale Branch (17-6, 9-1) faces Denmark-Olar in a rematch Tuesday at Estill in a game to decide the No. 1 and 2 playoff seeds.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Denmark-Olar 69, Whale Branch 67: Chris Turner drove for the winning shot with four seconds to play, breaking a 67-67 tie and handing the Warriors their first Region 5-A loss.

Justin Rhode led Whale Branch (19-4, 9-1) with 14 points. Denzel Daniel added 13 points and 15 rebounds, Devonta Glover scored 12 and freshman Cameron Miller chipped in seven points.

The top-seeded Warriors open postseason play Thursday against No. 4 seed Military Magnet.
