Hilton Head High boys nearly pull off win at Hanahan

Hilton Head Island High 54, Hanahan 43: The Hilton Head High girls clinched second place in Region 8-AAA with Saturday's win at Hanahan, securing a home game Thursday in the first round of the Class 3-A playoffs.

"Defensively, we did a great job for most of the game," Seahawks coach Dave Greenberg said.

Tiffany Banks had 14 points and three assists for Hilton Head High (16-8 overall, 7-3 region). Lauryn Bush scored 13 points, Savannah Reier had 11, and Americal Jenkins finished with 10 points and 17 rebounds. Rachel Friend added six points.


Hanahan 40, Hilton Head Island High 34: The Seahawks nearly closed out their season with a nice victory, but they saw a late lead slip away at Hanahan, which finished on top of Region 8-AAA.

Hilton Head High (4-20 overall, 1-9 region) led 24-22 at halftime and had a lead with two minutes left, but couldn't hang on. The Seahawks missed four free throws in the fourth quarter to hurt their cause.

Hanahan (14-10, 8-2), on the other hand, made six free throws down the stretch to put it away.

Patrick Riley led Hilton Head High with 14 points.
