Bluffton man arrested following car wreck, chase near Tanger 1

February 13, 2014

A 25-year-old Bluffton man was arrested Wednesday after a car wreck and foot chase through a Bluffton shopping center, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report.

A deputy was called to the area near Bluffton Parkway and Heritage Lakes at about 7 p.m. after a car overturned in a ditch across from Tanger Outlet Center 1, the report said. The officer saw a dazed man collecting items from the vehicle and acting in a suspicious manner, according to the report.

The man suddenly ran into the woods and led the deputy and a trooper with the S.C. Highway Patrol on a chase through the brush and across the Tanger 1 parking lot, the report said. They stopped the man, who was uninjured, outside one of the outlet shops and charged him with resisting arrest, providing false information, DUI, a traffic violation and two counts of fleeing to evade officers, according to court records. He was also served with four misdemeanor warrants.

The 25 year old was being held Thursday at the Beaufort County Detention Center pending bond hearings.
