GIRLS BASKETBALL

Hilton Head Christian 55, Pinewood Prep 44: The Eagles jumped out quickly on the way to the home win Monday, leading 20-4 at the end of the opening 8 minutes.

Hilton Head Christian was up 29-17 at halftime.

Ziaira Doe led the Eagles with 19 points. Macee Tamminen chipped in 16 and Frencesca Guidobono scored 13.

Pinewood Prep's Leah Wright had 14 points.

The Eagles (16-4, 7-4) climbed into second place in SCISAA Region 3-AAA with the win. They host Hilton Head Prep on Tuesday.

JV: Battery Creek 36, Burke 9

BOYS BASKETBALL

Pinewood Prep 60, Hilton Head Christian 53: The visitors used a balanced scoring effort to edge the Eagles.

Ryan Barrett scored a season-high 21 points to lead Hilton Head Christian. Brad Meccariello and Zack Polk each added 10 points.

Pinewood Prep's Austin McCarry had 13 points and Evan Schwartz scored 12.

The Eagles (8-13, 2-7 SCISAA Region 3-AAA) next host Hilton Head Prep on Tuesday.

St. Andrew's 45, Beaufort Academy 38: The Eagles lost in the opening-round game of the SCISAA Region 1-AA tournament.

Freshman Kane Thorpe led Beaufort Academy with 15 points and two steals, and Tucker Trask chipped in 11 points and four rebounds.

"It was a close game all the way through," beaufort cademy coach Chip Dinkins said. "Our guys fought hard. ... We're seeing progress."

The Eagles will close out their season Feb. 18 against Hilton Head Christian.\
