Twice in recent days, two living treasures of the Lowcountry appeared adjacently on page 3A of the paper — photographer Jay Karr and columnist David Lauderdale. Lucky readers.
Lauderdale’s pieces on the extraordinary-plus-ordinary charms of Port Royal and on the inspiring devotion of the Siceloff family, and Karr’s photos of the eye-on aerodynamic seagull and of the casually-expert chef, David Young, all resonate with the essence of life in these parts.
Seeing these pages reminds me that, for years, Karr and Lauderdale have conveyed a finely-framed and quietly powerful journalistic humanity.
