One man was hospitalized following a single-car crash in Beaufort early Saturday morning, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report.

Deputies were called to the 80 block of Bruce K. Smalls Drive about 1:38 p.m. after a white Chevrolet Malibu struck a tree, the report said. There was no one in the car but deputies found blood inside the car, the report said. After a witness told investigators she saw a man run from the vehicle toward Hazel Street, they tracked the blood trail to a locked camper, the report said.

Deputies ordered the person inside the open the door and found a 38-year-old Beaufort man with a large cut on his head, according to the report. The man was transported to Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

His condition was not available from the hospital Saturday afternoon. The wreck is under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol.
