Hilton Head High's Ford to tweet, sign with college today

Where will Poona go?

Cable sports network ESPN wants Twitter users to mull the question -- using the hashtag #WhereWillPoonaGo -- as Hilton Head Island defensive lineman Poona Ford prepares to announce his college choice. Ford will tweet his decision from the network's ESPNU Twitter handle, @espnu, at 12:30 p.m.

He will then field questions on air from the network's Charlotte, N.C., studio.

Ford took official visits in January to Texas, Oregon, Purdue and Missouri. The Shrine Bowl pick committed to Louisville back in August but withdrew his commitment when head coach Charlie Strong left for Texas in January.

His decision appears down to Texas or Missouri. Those who want to know first will have to be on their computer or phone.

The announcement will provide the spark to what should be an otherwise relaxed National Signing Day in the area.

Beaufort High School tight end Stephen Baggett will make good on his longtime commitment to East Carolina. Bluffton High School's K.J. Ford will sign with James Madison, one of four Bobcats football players signing Wednesday.

At Hilton Head Island High School, running back Khalil Lewis will sign with Gardner-Webb, while six other Seahawks athletes will sign in other sports.

Beaufort Academy soccer standout Miranda Weslake will sign with Clemson.

For Baggett, there was never much doubt after he committed to the Pirates last June. Wake Forest and Georgia Southern showed later interest.

Louisville coaches called last week and invited Baggett up for an official visit. He turned them down.

"It was too late," Baggett said. "I already made up my mind."

Ford faced a different situation after his commitment.

As Strong prepared to leave Lousiville, Ford played out the drama via posts to his Twitter account (@PoonaF_2). He tweeted that Strong wouldn't take the job, asked who was in line next for Louisville and later posted about his official visit with the Longhorns.

"University of Texas got damn near everything," he wrote.

Ford's Twitter has been quiet lately on the recruiting front. He met with Strong on Hilton Head on Friday morning before flying to Missouri to visit with the Tigers.

An ESPN release said Ford's announcement will be the first using a network Twitter account. He is expected to post thoughts on his personal account leading up to the announcement.
