If you're a fan of Beaufort High or Bluffton boys basketball, the past two weeks are a perfect example of how maddening the S.C. Basketball Coaches Association polls can be.

Despite excellent seasons by the Eagles and Bobcats, neither team cracked the Class 4-A top 10 until last week, when Beaufort High finally made it in at No. 10. Bluffton was unranked, despite a perfect Region 8-AAAA record.

On Saturday, the two teams met for the first time this season, and Beaufort High won, 57-49. When the new rankings came out today, though, it was Bluffton (12-4, 5-1) in the poll at No. 9, while Beaufort High (16-3, 4-2), hurt by a loss to Fort Dorchester last week, was again unranked.

No worries, though. The two teams will battle it out on the court again a week from Thursday.

Whale Branch (16-3, 6-0 Region 5-A) remained No. 1 in the Class 1-A boys poll, while the Warriors' girls team (14-5, 6-0) is still No. 2 in the girls poll.

And Ridgeland-Hardeeville (13-5, 9-1 Region 6-AA) made its first appearance of the year in the Class 2-A boys poll at No. 9.
