Garbage, recycling costs to skyrocket on island

info@islandpacket.comFebruary 2, 2014

It seems that the increased garbage and recycling costs in store for Hilton Head Island residents deserves future coverage by the newspaper.

Perhaps my numbers should be checked by your staff. I called our contract service, Republic, to continue our service with them, and was advised of the new charges starting April 1. It's about $155 per quarter vs. the $55 we are now paying under the existing contract with the town.

Am I correct in assuming that this amounts to a $400 per year increase for everyone who was a Republic customer? If true, is the town management aware of what they have done to us?
