A driver was injured in a hit-and-run accident on a Hilton Head Island bridge late Friday, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report.

A deputy driving on the Charles E. Fraser Bridge about 8:43 p.m. saw a car with extensive damage facing west and sitting in the eastbound lanes, the report said. The vehicle appeared to have rolled over, and all its airbags had deployed.

The driver, who did not remember what happened before the crash, was transported by ambulance to Hilton Head Hospital, the report said. The driver's condition was not available late Saturday.

A witness told deputies he saw two cars traveling "extremely" fast down the Cross Island Parkway prior to the accident, though it was not clear from the report what happened next.

Deputies later located one of the cars, a 2008 Infiniti, on Bay Pines Road, the report said. No charges had been filed Saturday afternoon and the incident remains under investigation.
