USC Beaufort's season-opening baseball, softball doubleheaders wiped out by rain

Laura Heberling's debut as the head softball coach at USC Beaufort will have to wait a while.

Steady rain in the Lowcountry put a damper on opening day at Richard Gray Sports Complex, as the USCB baseball and softball teams' scheduled doubleheaders were rained out.

The softball team's games against St. Andrews have been cancelled and have not been rescheduled at this time.

That means Heberling's debut will come next Saturday against Division I Savannah State in the Sand Sharks' opener in the Savannah State Lady Tiger Tournament. The Sand Sharks will not play at home until an evening doubleheader Feb. 21 against Montreat College for Military Appreciation Day.

The baseball team's opening twinbill with Fisher College also was cancelled. The teams will attempt to open the season Sunday, moving up the start time for their scheduled doubleheader to 11 a.m.
