Officers seized about 12 pounds of marijuana and arrested three people Thursday following a traffic stop between Ridgeland and Hardeeville, according to the Jasper County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies observed a car traveling southbound on Interstate 95 weaving in and out of its lane about 10:40 a.m. and pulled the vehicle over, Maj. Donald Hipp said. The driver, 23-year-old Evi Raul Hernandez, said he and his passengers were driving from New York to their home in Tampa, Fla.

Officers smelled marijuana and searched the car with a K-9 unit, Hipp said. They found 5,831 grams of packaged and sealed marijuana.

"I-95 is considered an interstate corridor for drug trafficking," Hipp said. "You have to have the nose for it and get lucky out of that."

The driver and his passengers -- 45-year-old Orelver Hernandez and 21-year-old Yamilette Zuluaga -- were charged with trafficking between 10 and 100 pounds of marijuana, according to court records. Evi Raul Hernandez was also charged with driving without a license.

The suspects are being held at the Jasper County Detention Center, with bond set for each at $15,000.
