Memorial, parade, march planned to honor King on Monday

Several events are planned for Monday to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy:

Bluffton's Martin Luther King Jr. Committee events: Memorial service, 12:30 p.m., Theodore Washington Municipal Building, 20 Bridge St.; followed by a march through Old Town and a cookout.

Hilton Head Island's MLK Jr. Memorial Celebration:

March, 10 a.m., Hilton Head Island High School parking lot; memorial program, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the school's Seahawk Cultural Center; free community lunch follows in the school cafeteria; screening of civil rights video, 7 p.m., parish hall, All Saints Episcopal Church. Canned goods collected for Sandalwood Food Pantry at each event.

Beaufort County Ministerial Alliance's Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration:

Parade, 10 a.m., starting on Rodgers Street, Beaufort; closing program, 11:30 a.m., University of South Carolina Beaufort.
